Copied this from another site but interesting! Shame to see it go.

A deal has been struck to keep a town’s outdoor swimming pool open for at least another summer.

The site on Brightlingsea’s Promenade is owned by Tendring District Council (TDC) and it has been looking to off-load the facility to save money.

It had proposed to potentially sell the pool for £1 in a bid to take the running costs and maintenance out of its budget.

However, TDC agreed for Brightlingsea Town Council (BTC) to carry out necessary repairs and for TDC to cover the running costs for a shortened 2016 season.

It is hoped that in the longer term that BTC will be able to come up with a viable plan to take over the whole operation of the pool.

Without that happening the facility will either be transferred to the Town Council or it will be decommissioned.

Now the Town Council has come up with a proposal which see the facility open for eight weeks this year, from July 15 through to September 9, allowing it to be ready for the school summer holidays.

BTC has agreed to make a contribution of 50 per cent of any operating loss over that period up to a maximum of £30,000.

It has also committed to develop a business plan and explore options for site improvements, grant aid funding, the use of renewable energy technology and a community trust involvement for the future management of the site.

BTC has also committed to provide a full report on all of its findings and proposals at a future meeting at the Brightlingsea Parish Hall with a provisional date of September 21.

Yes it would be sad to see it go, not many outdoor pools left anywhere. We walked round it last summer and it was packed. It could however do with refurbishing as the pool and buildings were looking dated.
