I HAVE HAD PERMISSION TO COPY THIS FROM ANOTHER SITE AS I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL DOG OWNERS ARE AWARE OF THIS.

Please can I warn dog owners about risks to dogs on the football grounds / rec at Frinton? Our Frenchie Dolly came to football training yesterday morning. An hour after returning home, she started to have seizures and we rushed her to the vets. She needed diazepam to lessen the seizures and cold packs on her body to try and keep her temperate at a safe level. Once she was reasonably stable we took her to the emergency vets in Colchester. She was on a drip and constant obs from yesterday lunchtime to this morning. She’s now better and is back home.
The vet said that her symptoms are consistent with eating a rotting conker, which are dotted all over the rec. If anyone takes their dog over the rec please keep an eye out for blackened bits of conkers on the ground. If your dog starts to have convulsions, take them to the vet immediately. Dolly needed an anti-lipid IV to try to bind the toxin together to reduce the damage. She won’t be returning to the rec until all the rotting conkers are gone. Thanks 🙂
